Message from Cheri

Today I am officially launching my campaign to be State Representative for the people of Bend.

This will be a hard-fought campaign and its success depends upon support from people like you. With that in mind, I invite you to be one of the first official members of Team Cheri.

Join Team Cheri

Let me take a minute to explain why this campaign is so important to me.

You see, Steve and I came to Bend for the opportunity to start our own business and raise our family while enjoying the incredible Central Oregon outdoor lifestyle.

We invested our life savings here and are now blessed with two successful restaurants, wonderful co-workers and three great kids.

I knew I had to give back to our wonderful community. So I got involved, starting by serving on the Bend-La Pine Schools’ board. Through this experience, I learned that while our national politics are polarized and too divided, here in Bend we make positive change by working together – respectfully.

Together, we succeed. And we have accomplished a lot for the children of Bend: we’ve boosted graduation rates, replaced outdated textbooks, approved new schools to relieve overcrowding and implemented performance-based compensation for teachers.

But much more needs to be done.

We need to tackle Oregon’s unacceptable high school graduation rate that is 48th in the nation. We need to fully fund voter-approved Career and Technical Education. And we must finally fix Oregon’s public employees’ pension crisis, which each year diverts more and more dollars away from classroom learning.

I have the policy experience and political moderation to be an effective leader for Bend in addressing these critical priorities.

But I will not succeed without you. Will you join me?

I know how hard this will be, and I’m no stranger to hard work. I grew up in a working-class family and started my first job when I was 15 at the local Wendy’s.

Today, Steve and I have two restaurants that have grown to nearly 100 employee co-workers. I understand, first-hand, the role that excessive taxes, regulations and mandates can have on small business jobs.

I am a committed public servant – not an active partisan. I’ll be an inclusive and independent voice for Bend. I’ll reject the rigid left-right extremes and will seek to bridge divides to solve problems. And I’ll always put Bend first.

I hope you will join me:
